Take care of your new tattoo
Your new ink deserves the best care.
Follow these simple steps to keep your tattoo looking good and healthy as it heals.
Tattoo Aftercare
Keep your Tegaderm or cover on for 5 to 7 days.
You might notice an ink sac or plasma buildup under the cover. This is completely normal and nothing to worry about.
When you remove the cover, wash your tattoo gently using antibacterial soap only.
Pat it dry, then apply a thin layer of healing ointment. Use just enough to keep it lightly moisturized.
Wash and reapply ointment 3 to 4 times a day for the first 3 days.
On day 4, switch to a moisturizing lotion instead. Ask your artist which one is best.
Keep it moisturized several times a day for at least 3 weeks. This helps your tattoo heal clean and keeps the colors bright.
Avoid direct sunlight, swimming, or soaking underwater for 3 weeks.
Do not scratch, peel, or pick your tattoo while it is healing. Let it heal naturally.
And most importantly, trust your artist, not your friends.
